Hello, Participants in Balfour, Procter, Harrop, and all West Arm Kootenay Lakers,
I hope this finds you and your club surviving the challenges of COVID 19. We know that operating under these circumstances has been hard for some of our Recreation clubs and getting back to some kind of normal is on everyone's mind.
There has been constant news and support from our Provincial sport organizations, Viasport and Sport for Life about implementing protocols. However, there are other long-term implications of Covid19 on our local sport and recreation systems that need addressing.
Some stats about the challenges that sport and recreation groups are facing, or will face during the next season or two are a cause for concern.
One prediction based on the most recent (during covid) Sport for Life survey says 1 in 3 groups in Canada will fold because of financial pressures caused by Covid protocols.
What would that look like in our Balfour/Procter/Harrop area? Which groups could be affected?
If we could prevent that from happening, how would we do it? I think it's worth a discussion to get a jump on this as soon as we can.
District's all over the country are getting together to identify and solve the challenges by pooling ideas and resources. Let's do the same.
We are hosting an outdoor socially distanced meeting (or series, if necessary) on Thursday, August 20th, 6:30 pm at Sunshine Bay Pavillion. (Bring a chair)
Please attend or send someone from your group who would like to hear and share concerns about where your group is at now, or your concerns for your future season(s) and group's longevity.
Please pass this onto all recreation groups you know in our area. All are welcome.
Please get the word out!
Hope to see you there.
