OCC Field Leader Course Overview
The Field Leader (Hiking) is an introductory course within a progression of outdoor leadership certifications. The aim of the Field Leader (Hiking) 14-hour certification course is to promote the exploration of the following principles:
• The planning and delivery of events should be about participants and their needs.
Participant centered leadership promotes quality outdoor events.
• Getting support and input from others is essential in promoting quality.
Outside input, through reflection or external validation, is essential for leadership growth and ensures that Field Leaders practices are up to date.
• Implementing the event cycle promotes quality and ensures due diligence.
The event cycle parallels outdoor leadership best practices and helps Field Leaders meet their legal requirement towards participants.
This course if for coordinators and volunteers of community youth networks operating under funding through the Basin Youth Network.
