This project aims to bring together champions in the Columbia Basin to explore ways to increase opportunities for girls and young women (ages 4-18) to participate in fun-filled, supportive sport and physical activity.
Basin PLAYS, in partnership with viaSport Columbia Basin, are hosting monthly collaborative learning events to build a community of champions to identify and generate actions to address the important issue of gender equity in sport and physical activity in the Columbia Basin.
We kicked-off with Megan Foster (MA), from Canadian Women and Sport presenting the latest information on the Long-Term Development of Girls in Sport. Canadian Women and Sport is Canada’s leading advocacy group dedicated to creating an equitable and inclusive Canadian sport and physical activity system that empowers girls and women - as active participants and leaders - within and through sport.
Please join this Gender Equity in Sport and Physical Activity online community / project page to be notified of updates, resources and future presentations.
Retaining Girls & Women in Sport, Recreation & Physical Activity
Workshop participants will be introduced to foundational gender equity principles in the context of sport and physical activity and youth development. With an increased understanding of the influences on girls' participation in sport and physical, participants will leave empowered to holistically design programs to meet the needs and retain women and girls in sport.
